Akebono-nuri

Urushi lacquer painting techniques

Originally, Akebono-nuri was named after the painting method that gives the impression of light shining from the darkness, like Akebono-ko, in which vermilion lacquer is applied for the base coat and black lacquer for the top coat, then polished so that the vermilion part of the base can be seen. We have devised a painting method that comes close to this lacquering technique.
