Cigar Portable RED-CROWNED CRANE　

This is a pair of red-crowned cranes in a blue-tame sukashi technique.
The black part of the crane would be lost if the original black and white of the crane is depicted as it is, so we had a hard time finding a way to express it.
The shape of the crane is easily recognized by the shading of the silver in the design.

Cigar Portable AKEBONO

The transparent acrylic pen barrel is painted with “Akebono-nuri” technique.
To take advantage of the transparency of acrylic, transparent amber lacquer instead of vermilion is used for painting with the “Akebono-nuri” technique. And it is blurred to gradually be transparent towards both ends.

“Akebono-nuri” is a lacquer painting technique in which black lacquer is applied over vermilion lacquer and polished to reveal the underlying vermilion. It is said that the name comes from that the vermilion pattern on the black background looks like a dawn shining through darkness.

It is a design of a fish looking up from the bottom of the water.
Inspired by Emile Gallé’s lamps, “Akebono-nuri” technique with black lacquer and transparent amber lacquer is used for creating a transparent body. Furthermore, in order not to loose its transparency, the motif is drawn using several layers of transparent amber lacquer.

We tried to express the image of autumn with stacked books and leaves. We made use of the watermark on the skeleton barrel for the sunlight filtering through the trees. The transparency of the light will become clearer with the passage of time.

Cigar Portable BLUE ASCENDING DRAGON

The motif is an Ascending Dragon. This is expressed by Ao-tamesukashi technique, painting light blue lacquer as a base and drawing the dragon motif with silver powder, then painting transparent blue lacquer on it.
Blue color is very difficult to adjust, so it will appear quite dark at first. Therefore, it may take some time for the motif to become visible. Please enjoy the changes time goes by.

Cigar Long RED ASCENDING DRAGON

The motif is the populer dragon. This is an ascending dragon design based on an old Chinese painting, which symbolizes healthy growth of children and the fulfillment of great wishes. The motif is drawn using silver powder and paint lacquer that has transparency on it. This is the Tame-sukashi technique let motifs to be seen through. The base color is Aka-tamenuri which is vermilion base paint and Shuai-urushi (transparent amber color lacquer) on the base. A cloud is drawn in gold under the screw, and a jewel ball is drawn on the grip section using the Tame-sukashi technique.
“Tame-sukashi” technique is a technique adding Maki-e taste to Tame-nuri. Drawing motifs with Maki-e on the base, and paint highly transparent Shuai lacquer. As time goes by, the top coat lacquer becomes more transparent, you can enjoy the changes to see through the ground color and maki-e.

We painted dragonfly on a transparent acrylic pen.
Akebono lacquering of black and vermilion combined lacquer was applied to the transparent base, inspired by Emile Gallé’s lamps. In order not to spoil the transparency of the base, we heaped up several layers of Shu-ai urushi and painted the motif.

The Fujin and the Raijin have been made a stunning reality by using “Tame-sukashi” techniques.
We achieved brilliant enhancement with “Tame-sukashi” effects, added a sprinkling of gold powder on the surface of “Shuai-urushi”, and coated with ”Tame-sukashi” again using “Shuai-urushi”.
