Cigar Portable AUTUMN EVENING
We described “Hagi (bush clover)” by the “Yako Maki-e” technique. This motif has many bowstrings so that the contrast of this motif’s edge of the line has also so many. This picture is taken after 1 month from the production. You can see the color slightly changed to red from the edge. As same as “Tame-sukashi” technique, the background in “shu” (red) becomes brighter as time passes. In case of Yako-nuri technique, the main motif (bush clover) is heaped up by black urushi, so this motif shines clearly with bright Shu color as background.

Cigar Portable BELL CRICKETS
The motif is bell crickets (Suzumushi). The black background is shaded with gold powder, and the bell crickets are drawn with gold maki-e, and one piece of blue shell is pasted as the wing and drawn the wing lines on it with gold maki-e. The bell crickets antennas are drawn very thin and long, and to wrap around the pen barrel. Even though gold is used extensively, the curves and motifs are drawn with delicate lines to create a rather elegant finish without being too flashy.

Background of “A Tiger and Bamboo”From the ancient period, “White tiger” has been treated as one of the four gods and defending the west. It is also used as for extracting out “Five poisons” making pressure to dishonest. Tiger fighting against dragon has the meaning that power is not easy to decide on victory or defeat. Technique First of all, the base is polished with the lacquering followed by sharpening of bamboo wood and further polishing it with the lacquering . Over the polished lacquer, the main subject TIGER is drawn with the high gilted lacquer. The parts of tiger’s eyes are expressed finely with the flat lacquering. The body portion is artistically painted to bring the similar golden color shade as of real tiger expressing the sense of strongness.

Cigar Long DRAGONFLY in THE SUNSET SKY
The dragonfly which has been considered as an auspicious pattern that brings a good luck since ancient times is drawn. The image is that the red sky at sunset expressed by vermillion urushi lacquer and the dragonfly flies in that madder red sky. Vermilion is considered as a presious color represent of sun, fire, and life and has been used respectedly. To express a sunset view, I placed a kinhirame and sprinkled gold and platinum powder to create a pattern that resembled evening clouds. The body of dragonfly is drawn by taka maki-e techinique with gold lacquer, its compound eyes are expressed with kinhirame, and the wings are finished with raden.
