The design is based on the theme of cats enjoying the moon. The two cats and the footprints on the grip section are drawn with “Yako Maki-e” technique. The moon is drawn with “Tamesukashi” technique. As the Tamenuri background becomes brighter over time, the black lacquered motifs become more apparent.

The design is expressed a lot of dragonflies flying around using “Yako Maki-e” technique on the “Byakudannuri” base. The design name “Akitsushima” is another name for Japan, and “Akitsu” is the old name for dragonfly.It is designed based on an image of countless dragonflies flying in a forest at dusk. The flying dragonflies are carefully depicted one by one. Writer Long SKULL

A skull is put on the top of the cap on the barrel which is heaped up with charcoal powder. A skull is finished with vermeil (gold plated on silver). A clip is made of black urushi lacquer baked on and heaped up with a little gold. The clip is made to look like a backbone and the face of the skull goes around to the back of the cap so that you can’t tell it is a skull when you put it in, but when you take it out, you can tell it is a skull.

The Sabiage (rust raising) technque is a suitable technique though effectively goes down also to a crackframing part that exists in the work of the former artwork (East and West encounter) use,and puts out violent. A Centipede is pained in colors after Gin-yuji heaping up technique and grossly polished. For a grip section, we sprinkled gold powders after rust raising technique and Sumiko finishing. Lastly, we set a silver rolling stopper of Skull at the top of the pen.

It is said that he taught Ushiwakamaru swordsmanship in Kurama, Kyoto. This piece is made using the advanced technique of kaki-wari based on charcoal powder finishing.

We described “Hagi (bush clover)” by the “Yako Maki-e” technique. This motif has many bowstrings so that the contrast of this motif’s edge of the line has also so many. This picture is taken after 1 month from the production. You can see the color slightly changed to red from the edge. As same as “Tame-sukashi” technique, the background in “shu” (red) becomes brighter as time passes. In case of Yako-nuri technique, the main motif (bush clover) is heaped up by black urushi, so this motif shines clearly with bright Shu color as background.
