Cigar Portable AUTUMN EVENING

We described “Hagi (bush clover)” by the “Yako Maki-e” technique. This motif has many bowstrings so that the contrast of this motif’s edge of the line has also so many. This picture is taken after 1 month from the production. You can see the color slightly changed to red from the edge. As same as “Tame-sukashi” technique, the background in “shu” (red) becomes brighter as time passes. In case of Yako-nuri technique, the main motif (bush clover) is heaped up by black urushi, so this motif shines clearly with bright Shu color as background.

Cigar Portable Goldfishes & Water plants

The main motif is the goldfish, which has long been popular as a summer tradition or as a lucky charm for financial luck. And adding to draw the water plants make goldfishes look like swimming in the water. The background is black with gold shading, and the water plants are drawn with gold urushi lacquer. The body of the goldfishes are drawn with Taka Maki-e technique, and the tails have gold blur. The puffy goldfish swimming gracefully and the swaying water plants create a very beautiful finish.

Cigar Long Suzu Ishime (Silver)　

It is “Suzu Ishime” which uses “roasted tin powder” instead of Kanshitsu (dry lacquer) powder.
Using the roasted tin powder made it possible to creates the material finish.
This “Suzu Ishime Silver” uses the black lacquer for the base, and the finish has the hard brilliance like a fumigated silver and hematite.

“Ishime” is created with the special technique that makes stone like texture on the surface.
When the dry lacquer powder is sprinkled on a lacquered surface, surface tension works and the powder gathered in places.
Making use of the clumps created by chance, layer the lacquer, let it fix, and then polish it to create “Ishime”.
It will be the “cobblestone-like” finish in the garden.

Cigar Portable HAGI

Palladium powder, which is a type of platinum-based metal, is sprinkled as a base, and the bush clover (Hagi) is painted using the same palladium powder. The bush clover flowers are draw in vermilion and added shading to give them a three-dimensional effect. The metallic color gives it a sophisticated and elegant finish

Cigar Portable ASHI

The entire surface of the axis is painted in black on black with reed leaves. The difficulty of this work can be felt in that the motif is black on black, which makes it almost impossible to see the area being painted while the work is in progress.

Cigar Portable WISTERIA　

We expressed gorgeous wisteria flowers in maki-e, which perfectly matches the shape of the pen. Different base colors give completely different impressions.

Cigar Portable SPIDER

Nakaya expressed a Spider (Kumo) by “Sumiko” (charcoal powder) technique. The web was written by a thin brush pen and polished up (“togi-dashi”) after sprinking silver powders. The Spider has an appearance of solidity by “Taka-Maki-e” heaping up technology with black and yellow Urushi lacquer and polish up. (“togi-dashi”). Lastly, we added in detail parts of the Spider and polished up as Roiro (gross) finishing. On the grip section, a craftman used gold powder as base. A flower was written in gold, a butterfly was heaped up by Urushi lacquer and sprinkled by gold powder and rubbed with black and white Urushi and polished. (“togi-dashi”).

Cigar Portable CRAB　

Nakaya made this motif by “togi-kiri” maki-e technique with silver based lacquer ware to keep an atmosphere of an Indian ink drawing.
This artwork is the first model of “togi-kiri maki-e technique” with silver color.

Cigar Portable GOLDFISH'S WHISPERED SECRETS

This model expresses Kuro-tamenuri and Aka-tamenuri in one pen. For goldfishes, the background is done in Aka-tamenuri, the goldfishes are heaped up by Shu urushi, the outline is drawn by Ginko (silver powder), and then Shu-ai urushi for Aka-tamenuri is applied to the whole surface. Then the background is done in Kuro-tamenuri and the goldfishes are done in Aka-tamenuri. Finally, waterweeds are drawn with colored urushi and painted over again with Shu-ai urushi to make them shiny.
