Cigar Long TIGER ＆ BAMBOO

Background of “A Tiger and Bamboo”From the ancient period, “White tiger” has been treated as one of the four gods and defending the west. It is also used as for extracting out “Five poisons” making pressure to dishonest. Tiger fighting against dragon has the meaning that power is not easy to decide on victory or defeat. Technique First of all, the base is polished with the lacquering followed by sharpening of bamboo wood and further polishing it with the lacquering . Over the polished lacquer, the main subject TIGER is drawn with the high gilted lacquer. The parts of tiger’s eyes are expressed finely with the flat lacquering. The body portion is artistically painted to bring the similar golden color shade as of real tiger expressing the sense of strongness.

Chrysanthemum flowers are depicted on a gradation of gold nashiji. The white chrysanthemum in the center is depicted with a white shell to enhance the loveliness of the chrysanthemum flower.

Cigar Long DRAGONFLY in THE SUNSET SKY

The dragonfly which has been considered as an auspicious pattern that brings a good luck since ancient times is drawn. The image is that the red sky at sunset expressed by vermillion urushi lacquer and the dragonfly flies in that madder red sky. Vermilion is considered as a presious color represent of sun, fire, and life and has been used respectedly. To express a sunset view, I placed a kinhirame and sprinkled gold and platinum powder to create a pattern that resembled evening clouds. The body of dragonfly is drawn by taka maki-e techinique with gold lacquer, its compound eyes are expressed with kinhirame, and the wings are finished with raden.

Cigar Long PEACOCK with WISTERIA

The motifs of wisteria and peacock are expressed by Chinkin dot and line engraving.
The body is decorated with nashiji bokashi and wisteria flowers are scattered on the cover.

Cigar Long JUMPING CARP

The jumping carp, which is said to be a sign of good luck, is finished with charcoal powder.
The lively sound of the water surface is expressed with charcoal powder and heaped silver.

Gigar Long GOLDEN OWL

The owl is considered a good-luck charm because of its name, which means “no hardship,” “good fortune,” and “old age. The motif of owl is drawn by Chinkin technique only.
The owl motif is realistically expressed by precise technique.

GOAT SHRINK LEATHER

The fountain pen wrapped with goat shrink leather.
It is designed with a low center of gravity and metals are used to its cover and screws. Custimization is available to change the color of clip, pen nib, and metal parts.

The goat shirink leather is called “chari leather” in Japan, named after Mr. Charles Henninger who was an American tanner who promoted Western-style leather in Japan around the begining of Meiji era.
Crumple goat leather tanned with a plants astringency vertically, horizontally, and diagonally many times, to make deep unevenness on the surface. Because most of the processes needs expertise skill, only skilled craftsmen can manufacture it.
“Chari leather” is very rare and beautiful leather unique to Japan, it was used as a material for bags.

Cigar Long Suzu Isihme (Midori)　

It is “Suzu Ishime” which uses “roasted tin powder” instead of Kanshitsu (dry lacquer) powder.
Using the roasted tin powder made it possible to creates the material finish.
This Suzuishime green uses the blue lacquer for the base, and the finish will be lighter than the black base one, and looks the silver the brighter.

“Ishime” is created with the special technique that makes stone like texture on the surface.
When the dry lacquer powder is sprinkled on a lacquered surface, surface tension works and the powder gathered in places.
Making use of the clumps created by chance, layer the lacquer, let it fix, and then polish it to create “Ishime”.
It will be the “cobblestone-like” finish in the garden.
